Butane can be thermally cracked to four possible carbenium ions (carbocations).

The dimethylcarbenium ion (the secondary propyl cation) is formed by rearrangement of the ethylcarbenium ion (the primary propyl cation).

This reaction is NOT balanced, it only shows the possible carbenium ions.
