The heterogeneous water gas reaction involves heating carbon and water at high temperature to give a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen.

The carbon source may be coal, peat, biomass, waste, recycled plastic etc. This is an important green chemistry reaction.

The thermodynamics of this reaction can be explored in the thermochemistry gadget available from the main index.
