Rearrangement is the process whereby a species converts to an isomer of itself via a concerted or stepwise mechanism.
A particular rearrangement may require a catalyst. If the catalytic step is rate limiting the reaction will be second order, if some other step is rate limiting the rearrangement will be first order. For more information look in the Chemogenesis webbook section on rearrangement reactions. + |
