Classified as: Fundamental Particle Interactions
At a very deep (and high energy) level, matter is constructed from quarks. Quarks have 'colour charge', however, the selection rules of quark chromodynamics mean that free quarks can never be observed and all hadrons (particles made from two or three quarks) are colour neutral.
Groupings of three quarks give rise to fermionic hadrons with net spins of 1/2, 3/2, 5/2,... and grouping of two quarks give rise to bosonic hadrons with net spins of 0, 1, 2,...γ |
