Classified as: Type 9 Lewis Acid/Base Complexation Chemistry
Onium Ion Lewis acids do not form stable complexes with s-HOMO Lewis bases, instead, the Onium Ion is invariably reduced.
The reaction involves the transfer of a ligand from the Onium Ion Lewis acid to the nucleophilic s-HOMO Lewis base. For more information look in the Chemogenesis webbook sections on Lewis acids and Lewis bases and the Lewis acid/base interaction matrix.![](http://www.chemthes.com/mech/109.gif)
