Substitution: Nucleophilic Internal
Internal nucleophilic substitution, Sni, occurs when the initial attack produces a cyclic intermediate or an intermediate complex with tight ion-pairing. Sni is often envoked to explain the non-inversion of chiral centres.

For more information look in the Chemogenesis webbook sections on substitution reactions and substitution, transfer, abstraction, displacement (STAD).
