Real, long lived, electronically neutral reagent chemical. Gram formula weight (molecular mass) = 42.039 Melting point = -145 °C Boiling point = 0 °C about Purity = 99 % Solubility in organics = soluble Toxic, flammable, explosive, carcinogenic yellow gas. Useful methylating agent but potentially very nasty stuff. Diazomethane is usually prepared as required from a precursor material such as Diazald¨ (N-methyl -N-nitroso -p-toluene sulfonamide) which is commercially available.
